About Us

Yoga For Lawyers is offered by Mary Jane Wagg in association with Utah Lawyers Helping Lawyers, and is made possible by our generous friends at Kula Community Yoga Center.

Mary Jane is an associate in the Litigation, Appellate, and Employment Sections at Van Cott, Bagley, Cornwall & McCarthy, P.C. in Salt Lake City. Before joining Van Cott, Mary Jane practiced at several premiere boutique litigation firms in New York City. In 2006, after practicing yoga for more than 10 years, she earned her CYT-200 yoga teacher certification from Yoga Mountain in New City, New York. Ms. Wagg is registered with Yoga Alliance.

Mary Jane first came to yoga seeking refuge from the injuries she suffered during years of over-training as a competitive swimmer, NCAA fencer, and half-marathoner. What began as designated slow-down-and-stretch-out discipline soon became a passion of its own, and Mary Jane became a dedicated practitioner of high-intensity Astanga and Jivamukti styles of yoga.

Sometimes the more difficult discipline, however, is not to challenge and stimulate the body more intensely, but to back off and slow down. This is especially true for competitive athletes and professionals with demanding jobs and schedules.

Mary Jane designs Yoga For Lawyers classes that help students relax and find repose by surrendering to postures, not fighting them. Yoga has gained recognition by the medical community as a powerful tool for overcoming stress, injury, depression, and addiction phenomena that, unfortunately, afflict the legal community to a greater degree than the general public. Every class at Yoga For Lawyers is different, and we hope you find each one leaves you feeling a little better than you did before.
